Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 22 (ANI): As the Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms come into effect on Monday, BJP leader CR Kesavan lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi while hitting out at the INDIA bloc, saying their motive is "Parivar Nirbhar Bharat".
Kesavan referred to the GST reforms as a "monumental triumph" and hailed PM Modi's call for self-reliance.
He told ANI, "GST reforms are a monumental triumph for our cooperative federalism and parliamentary democracy. Prime Minister Modi Ji's clarion call for a Swadeshi revolution and his nationalistic vision of self-reliance have inspired a new dimension to the GST. Go Swadeshi today, go Swadeshi tomorrow."
"When it comes to Bharat's future and our people's welfare, Prime Minister Modi thinks at least 50 years ahead. While the Congress and the INDI bloc's only motive is Parivar Nirbhar Bharat, the Prime Minister has given us a lofty vision and goal of an Atmarnirbar Bharat," he added.
The 56th meeting of the GST Council earlier this month replaced the current four-rate system with a streamlined two-slab regime of 5 per cent and 18 per cent, while retaining a separate 40 per cent slab for luxury and sin goods.
As the implementation of the GST reforms will lead to a reduction in prices of essential goods, the BJP leader called it a "force multiplier", guaranteeing prosperity.
Kesavan said, "These people-centric are indeed a force multiplier which will guarantee prosperity not just for the present, but they will ensure prosperity for posterity too. At the dawn of today, we saw crores of families filled with joy, happiness and cheer because these GST reforms have empowered each and every section of society."
"Daily essentials, food items, and health insurance for senior citizens. MSME traders who do business and give employment to youth have been positively impacted by these reforms, and this is due to the phenomenal will the Prime Minister has shown," he said.
Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi announced the implementation of the next-generation GST reforms from September 22, marking what he called a major step towards the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
Addressing the nation ahead of the rollout, PM Modi said the reforms would usher in a countrywide "GST Bachat Utsav," benefiting poor, middle-class, farmers, traders, and entrepreneurs alike.
He said, "From the sunrise of the very first day of Navratri, the nation is taking another important and major step towards the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. Tomorrow, on the first day of Navratri, September 22, along with the rising of Suryadev, the Next Generation GST Reforms will come into effect."
"From tomorrow, across the country, a 'GST Bachat Utsav' will begin. In this GST Bachat Utsav, your savings will increase and you will be able to purchase your favourite items more easily," the Prime Minister added. (ANI)
