Cold Wave Warning For Khurda, Cuttack & 4 Other Dists As Mercury Dips Below 10°C In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With cold wave sweeping Odisha, the mercury plunged to 8.4°C in G Udayagiri in Kandhamal in the last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday.

A total of 17 places in the state recorded a minimum night temperature below 15°C.

Jharsuguda at 11.6°C saw a sharp fall of 6.3°C compared to normal, which was also the highest drop in the state for the day. Angul at 12.6°C recorded the second major 6°C drop from normal, followed by Bhubaneswar at 14.8°C, where night-time reading of minimum temperature was 5.8 notches below normal.

The cold wave conditions are likely to persist for two more days with a further drop in the night temperature by 2-3°C during the next 2-3 three days. Warning has been issued for the districts of Kandhamal, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundagarh on November 11-12.

In the last 24 hours, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal was the coldest place in the state at 8.4°C followed by Daringbadi at 10°C and Phulbani at 11°C. The other places which witnessed a crisp chill in the air are Jharsuguda (11.6°C), Chipilima in Bargarh at 11.8°C, Semiliguda in Koraput and Kirei in Sundargarh at 12.2°C each, Rourkela (12.5°C), Angul (12.6°C), Keonjhar (13.8°C), Dhenkanal (13.5), Sundargarh and Bhawanipatna at 14°C each, Koraput (14.2°C), Balangir (14.5°C), Bhubaneswar (14.8°C), Sonepur (14.9°C), Hirakud (15.4°C), and Sambalpur (15.8°C).

Cuttack recorded 16°C, 3.6°C below normal.

Moderate fog also occurred in Sundagarh and shallow fog has occurred in Kalahandi and Jharsuguda districts.

According to the weather agency, mercury may hover around 14-15°C in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for three days. Phulbani, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Rourkela may record 10-11°C during this period.
