NEW DELHI: Congress leader and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “scared” of US President Donald Trump and “remote-controlled” by industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani.
As per news agency PTI, addressing a public rally in Begusarai district, Gandhi said, “Having a huge chest does not make you strong. Just look at Mahatma Gandhi, who had a frail build but took on the British, who were the superpowers of the time.”
Taking a jibe at the Prime Minister, he added, “Narendra Modi, with his boast of a 56-inch chest, got a panic attack when Trump called him during Operation Sindoor, and the military conflict with Pakistan ended in two days. He is not just scared of Trump, but is also being remote-controlled by Ambani and Adani.”
Gandhi reiterated his charge that “Operation Sindoor happened, Donald Trump’s phone comes, and Modi ji, who says he has a 56-inch chest, gets scared as Trump says to shut this Sindoor. Within two days, PM Modi stopped it.”
He further compared PM Modi to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, saying, “In 1971, Indira Gandhi was threatened by the US, but she didn’t get scared and did what needed to be done.”
Continuing his criticism, the Congress leader said major government decisions like demonetisation and GST were “aimed at destroying small businesses and benefiting the big ones.”
“Our approach is different. We want to promote small businesses. We want to replace ‘Made in China’ labels on your phones and T-shirts with ‘Made in Bihar’ tags,” he said.
Gandhi also attacked the BJP leadership over development in Bihar , saying Union home minister Amit Shah’s claim of “no land” for industries was ironic when “land can be given to Adani for Rs 1 after stealing it.”
“A few days ago, Amit Shah said that there is no land to set up a company in Bihar. But I want to ask the Prime Minister that they say there is no land but you can give it to Adani Rs 1 after stealing it. There is land for that, but no land for Bihar's development," he said.
He assured voters that the INDIA bloc government would work for every community, not for a specific caste. “Our Mahagathbandhan will come to power in Bihar, and we will provide the best education. I give you a personal guarantee that when the INDIA alliance comes to power at the Centre, we will open a university as good as Nalanda,” he said.
In a lighter moment later in Begusarai, Gandhi joined Vikassheel Insan Party leader Mukesh Sahni for a fishing activity.
A video shared by the Congress showed Gandhi wading into a pond with local fishermen, discussing their struggles and highlighting the INDIA bloc’s promises of insurance and financial aid for the fishing community.
Polling in Bihar will be held in two phases, on November 6 and 11, with counting on November 14.
